Le Musée d’Orsay

Canard and I couldn’t resist inserting ourselves into this painting by Frédéric Bazille:

L'atelier de Bazille

L’atelier de Bazille, 1870

It’s just so fun! We wanted to be there in that salon, conversing with the artists of the day.

But really, my favourite painting in the Musée d’Orsay is Monet’s La Rue Montorgueil, à Paris, fête du 30 juin 1878:

This painting is amazing. Honestly, you can’t really tell here, but hanging in the gallery it looks like the canvas is lit from within. Seriously, when you view it from across the room it practically glows. Seeing it up close literally made my day.

Of course not, you and Canard look quite comfy there. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I completely agree. A truly amazing painting. Monet is a genius. For those of us who like organization in our lives, this painting is welcome relief. There is so much going on, it simply cannot be organized. Brilliant work. Thanks for sharing.

    • Monet IS a genius. I always knew I loved this painting (I have seen it before) but I wasn’t sure how to articulate why. ‘Welcome relief’ captures it perfectly — and more than that, joy. The utter joy of disorganization and freedom of form.
